                    SEA TURTLES OF ORISSA
Every year during autumn, a spectacular natural sight unfolds in the Orissa coast as hundreds of thousands of Olive Ridley sea turtles arrive for their annual breeding and nesting ritual.
However, these harmless creatures are now seriously threatened by illegal mechanized fishing which has killed over 130,000 turtles in the last 13 years. Ports, offshore oil exploration and coast based industries are new threats for the turtles. Operation Kachhhapa a conservation program launched in 1998 by WPSI with our Society as local partners endeavours to protect them.
